A few words from the Monophonics
1. Why did you pick these tracks?
Our song…
Monophonics -There’s A Riot Going On: As our single on the album, this song we feel has a broad appeal and represents our sound and direction as a band well. It also features a music video we are proud of, made by our drummers own brother Tyler Bohlman.

Influential…
Black Merda – Cynthy Ruth: This song has the elements of our sound and is an example what we are going for musically as a band. It is black rock with soulful chants. It takes inspiration from Jimi Hendrix’s band of gypsies as well as sounds of Funkadelic.

New song we dig…
The Bees – Winter rose: Out of the UK this is a current band we can really appreciate. With a similar focus on song writing and production. We’ve listened to this song many many times on the road.

2. How would you describe the difference between your last album “Into The Infrasounds” and the new one “In Your Brain”

The differences are huge! The new record was written and recorded spontaneously which was not the old process. We recorded “In Your Brain” on tape using tons of analog gear and mics which was not the case of the last record. It was produced & recorded by our own Ian McDonald and Kelly Finnigan in Kelly’s basement where as the other records were done in big studios for big $ and recorded by engineers that had a different approach that didn’t match the vibe of the group. Our main focuses on the new record were songwriting, tones, production and vibe! The old record was 80% instrumental and displayed styles like jazz, funk, boogaloo and afrobeat while our main focus on this new record was psychedelic soul, heavy funk and cinematic soul and was vocally heavy! We had some personnel change right when “Into the Infrasounds” came out so we went back to the drawing board and figured out what kind of band we wanted to be, so this record really represents our sound which we feel separates us from a lot of other soul and funk acts.

3. You just completed a ton of dates, what’s next? Any big festivals on the horizon?

Just finishing another run now…we just completed 12 weeks since mid April so we are looking forward to playing around California in August! We will be doing some big Festivals in Cali like San Jose Jazz Fest, The Auburn Funk Fest, Long Beach Funk Fest, The Telluride Blues Fest in Colorado and the Roots n Blues n BBQ fest in Missouri which includes great artists like Rodriguez and Al Green. We are hitting Europe in October to tour around Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland and Greece! Then we going to quickly cut a EP of Covers we love and print a small limited number of physical copies but give it away as a free download this fall. Then we’re gonna start in on another record to release in May/June while continuing to tour!
